Fun fact: My mom was in the dental field for yeeaaarsss. I always (and still do, lol) had to go to the dentist every 6 months, floss my teeth before bed, couldn't drink soft-drinks - I was that kid. Cavity-free but envious of every one else that could enjoy a glass of chocolate milk before bed.

And guess what? I've turned into MY MOM and although P may loath the rules, I'm saving her little teeth from destruction!

 So when I was told that I had a spot on my back tooth that looked a little sketchy, I was mortified. HOW DID THIS HAPPEN?! I don't excessively eat sweets, I always brush and floss my teeth morning and night - I'm a spastic over my dental hygiene so when my dentist suggested that I get a filling just in case, I was all for it. I'd rather take care of it before it was a problem then to take care of it after it became one. 

Fast-forward about a month after my filling and I was whitening my teeth with my Crest White Stripes and almost instantly was struck with the most brutal pain I've ever felt, right in the tooth that I had filled. I immediately took off the white stripe and threw it straight away... I was bummed because I knew the filling had made my tooth more sensitive but the true question was "For how long?" I drink coffee pretty regularly so I knew I didn't have much time to figure out what I was going to do before I started back at square-one with my whitening regimen and just like that, along came Smile Brilliant.

If you haven't heard of this whitening kit, I'll introduce you but first, have you ever called your dentist office just to see what they would charge to have your teeth whitened? Well, I have and I was looking at about $500+ for two trays and whitening gel + the doctor visits I would have to have in order to get fitted for the trays. It can get pretty costly.

So what's the difference between the service you'd receive at your dentist and the Smile Brilliant Whitening Kit? Nothing. Absolutely NOTHING. The only thing you're required to do is to take the impressions of your teeth yourself BUT for me, that didn't even come close to a deciding factor between the two because their service is light-speed and you get your trays back super quick!

So what do the Smile Brilliant Kit come with and how does it work?

It's pretty simple, actually. The first box you receive comes with everything you'll need. 

• 1 Upper Impression tray

• 1 Lower Impression tray

• 3 Base Paste

• 3 Catalyst Paste

• 6 Teeth Whitening Gel packs

• 6 Desensitizing Gel packs (add-on +$19.95-$39.95)

Now on to the good stuff: HOW DOES IT WORK?

When you first receive your kit, you won't be able to whiten right away. This is because you'll have to get your upper and lower impressions of your teeth by combining one Base paste and one Catalyst paste and then placing the combination of pastes into one the of the trays. After you've placed the mixture into one of the trays, you'll want to gently press the tray into either the upper or lower part of your mouth. Leave the tray there until the paste has firmed up and then gently remove the tray and place it to the side. 

Then repeat the steps above, place the second mixture into the remaining tray, press the tray gently on the remaining part of your mouth, wait until that firms up and then gently remove the tray and set it aside. 

Don't worry if these instructions are a little fuzzy, the ones you get inside your kit are much more detailed....

After doing all of that, I suggest letting the molds sit overnight and shipping out in the morning to ensure they're completely hardened and ready to be safely shipped :)

Once the Smile Brilliant lab receives your impressions, it will take about 3-5 days for them to make the molds and then another 3-4 days (international takes 7-14 days) to receive the trays back so except about a week to a week and-a-half before you'll be able to whiten. 

After you've received your clear trays, you have everything you need in the original kit to start whitening!

I've been whitening for almost two weeks now with this kit and my teeth are pearly white again! Just in time for an out-of-town wedding we're headed to this weekend! Oh, and the BEST part? I've had ZERO sensitivity issues while using this kit! I'm so pumped because my teeth are NOTORIOUS for sensitivity, especially when whitening so this is a HUGE deal for me!
