CATCHING UP ON THE WEEKEND | CHITCHAT

I feel like every Monday I say "I can't believe it's already Monday.." blah blah blah. But for real... I swear, the older I get, the more I realize how fast time goes by.... wait.... FLIES by.
I went out yesterday to get groceries and they already had stuff for Halloween - LIKE WHA?! I know stores want to get ahead start and all but dag on! And then I got the itch to check out Pottery Barn Kids halloween costumes *just to see* and whadaya know - HALLOWEEN COSTUMES GALORE. I better step my mom-game up because I know the one I spotted will sell out by next week at this rate... I need to stay up on these things cause moms out in these streets don't play.

Secondly, next weekend is my dance competition... I feel like I'm a celebrity from Dancing with the actual freakin' stars with as much as I've practiced this damn routine in the last 6 months. Most important: I will be so happy when this is over - although it's been a fun experience (truthfully), it's been pretty demanding as far as schedule goes. Edit: Now I sound like I haven't had fun lol I totally have and I'm super happy to be doing this for charity, which makes the demanding schedule so worth it, I think it's my nerves are starting to get to me!
Second most important thing: I have a new-found respect for dancers... It isn't my thing per say but I definitely respect the demand it takes to actually put together a routine, practice it and then execute it flawlessly because after all, you only get one shot to do it right and TRUST ME, it ain't easy, y'all.... I'm just sitting over here praying I don't fall off of the stage, trip or forget a step while they're over there literally flipping each other all over the place blindfolded (not really, but they could) while looking flawlessly elegant.

And this may be the most important thing of all: I CLEANED MY ENTIRE HOUSE THIS WEEKEND. Seriously... Deep, deep, DEEP cleaned. Go on, run your finger behind my TV with a white cotton glove - or actually don't cause I forgot to clean that but I can say that if you have a dog allergy you can come hangout at my house because I swear there's no trace that they even exist besides their need to be let out... oh and fed. That's important too.

Here are a few pics from this weekend -

The BIGGEST Hydrangeas I've ever seen. Fav!

Nothing to see here, I just have a thing for skies in the AM :)

Just wanted to update y'all on our weekend and little bit of our life because I haven't been able to do that lately - which is a good thing and a bad thing - my blog is growing (good thing!) but it sort of removes the reason why I started it in the first place || but I'm slowly getting the hang of it all and my new venture in life... Rome wasn't built in a day ;)

HOW TO GET EFFORTLESS BEACH WAVES | BEAUTY

Somebody gave me the idea for a tutorial on how I do my hair so I quickly (key word) filmed a video to put up on my channel on how I achieve loose, beach waves!

It's really simple to do but it can be time-consuming, depending on how long/thick your hair is.
I naturally have very curly hair, that's probably medium thickness and when I run through it, it can take me about 15-20mins to do the whole thing.

So how do I get this look?

Pretty easy. First, I like to start off with hair that has been washed at least a day before BUT sometimes I have to wash it beforehand, which isn't that big of a deal, you just have to be prepared to spray more stuff to keep the waves!

After washing, I blow it dry with a round brush, focusing on brushing the strands outwards.
After it's dry, I section my hair into two parts: Top and bottom.

Then start on the back pieces and curl every single strand AWAY from my face - all the way to the front strands. This is SUPER important.

Once I've curled the top and bottom halves, I'll then run the straightener over my ends. This makes sure I don't have the typical ringlet-type curls. By using the straightener, the curls appear more loose, which is truthfully what gives it the beach vibe we're going for.

After I straighten the ends, I'll plump up my roots with the Rusk Texture Spray (pictured below). This stuff is NO. JOKE. It's my favorite texturizing spray of all time! Also, don't be scared to tease your hair for extra volume ;)

Once I've added some volume to my hair, I'll flip it back and forth until I get the exact "look" I'm going for. Once I decide what side I'm going to wear my hair, then I'll spray it down with hair spray.

The video is just going to give you a little visual of the steps listed above but keep reading to see exactly what each product looks like and what I love to use!

Okay, so my absolute FAVORITE shampoo and conditioner (at the moment) are these two by Renpure. I actually made the discovery of these by accident not too long ago.. I was running low on my regular shampoo and conditioner and I needed something to hold me over and that's when I found these. I bought them both strictly based on smell, because it smells JUST LIKE COCONUT but quickly figured out that they are probably the best shampoo and conditioner duo I've ever used - this combo makes my hair SO extremely soft and it smells so summer-y, even after blowing it dry.

This is one of my favorite hair oils to use in the summer time because it actually does help reduce frizz and makes my hair really soft and shiny - without looking greasy. I can also use this on dry hair and it works really well to reduce fly-aways.  Plus, the smell is amazing.

If you follow me on snapchat (taylorpilk) then you were probably as uhh... scared surprised?... as I was when I showed how large my hair was after using this stuff haha but I promise, I tamed it down afterwards. Nonetheless, if you're looking to add more texture aka "lion hair" as I call it, then you need to grab a can of this. It is hands-down the BEST product I've ever used to make my hair FULL of volume. I cannot live without this texture spray!

So after I use all of these products, I go in on the curl. Watch the short, three-minute video below to see a quick tutorial on how I get loose, beachy waves.

Q + A | LIFESTYLE

Q: What do you and your husband do for a living?
A: I'm a stay-at-home mom and I blog on the side. Devon is an owner in his family's pest control company, Priority Pest Services, here in the Hampton Roads area.

Q: Are you going to have more kids?
A: YES! We're getting the itch for number 2 so hopefully within the next year :)

Q: Can you make more [YouTube] videos?
A: Absolutely. I just sort of lack ideas on what people might want to watch so if you have any ideas - send them my way!

Q: What's your typical day like?
A: Hectic. Lol. No, it's pretty laid back, actually... Just lucky to have a healthy toddler that's able to destroy the house, so I'm blessed in that regard. But honestly, it's either running errands, going to the gym, working on a blog, playing outside with the dogs and Penelope, cleaning the house.... the list could go on lol. It definitely changes from day-to-day :)

Q: What's your favorite snack?
A: Hmmm.... My fav snack.... I'm just now realizing as I'm typing this that I'm not really a huge snacker lol but really, I love fruit, especially grapes, so if I want a quick snack, I usually always have those in the fridge so I'll opt for those.

Q: What's you're favorite feature of your house?
A: My favorite thing we have in our house is probably our laundry chute. I couldn't live without it - the convenience speaks for itself lol

Q: Who or what inspires you?
A: My husband + daughter 100%. Everything I do, it's for them. That sounds cliche, I guess but Devon and Penelope inspire me to be better. If there's a goal that I want to reach, I'm motivated by them to achieve it.

Q: What part of the day do you most look forward to?
A: First, when my husband gets home from work and we can sit down at the table, over dinner and  talk about our day - that's definitely my favorite BUT I wouldn't be honest if I didn't include my gym time. It's an hour for me to recharge and de-stress and  Penelope gets and hour to hang with some friends.

Q: What changed the most about you when you became a mom?
A: Having Penelope has really softened my heart to a lot of things and situations. My patience has expanded, I have a new perspective on my life and future but mostly, I have such an amazing, new appreciation for my own mom. Everything clicked after P was born.... Mama was always right!

Q: What's your favorite perfume?
It's from Anthropologie and it's their Royal Apothic Perfume collection called Hothouse Peonie. Reminds me of summer and warm weather... my favorite scent of. all. time.

Q: What smell is currently in your house?
A: Currently: Lush Amazon soy candle from Target - it smells so good and burns for the longest time!

Q: What is your favorite beverage? Alcoholic and non-alcoholic?
A: I'm not really a drinker, honestly... Like, maybe I'll have a drink 3x's a year TOPS... not even kidding... haha. But I when one of our friends got married last November, we had dinner at Bonefish the night before the wedding and I tried a Pineapple martini and it was DELICIOUS. If you're into cocktails, give it a try because it was actually really good!
As for non-alcoholic.. Ginger peach sweet tea from Nordstrom - so good!

Q: What's your favorite coffee to drink?
A: This is hard because I love all coffees lol but I usually get the same thing regardless of where I go: An iced decaf mocha, no whip. Of course, it's pretty sweet so I rarely drink it but when I'm in the mood, that's what I get.

Thanks for getting my brain going, y'all!

ASK ME ANYTHING Q+A | LIFESTYLE

So after doing this blogging thing for a couple of years now, I've realized that it's a lot harder to show people what they want to know. Simply put: figuring out what people want to know about me or my life is almost impossible because for me, my life is well - my life. I do this every single day so what's "fascinating" or "interesting" to someone else, may seem pretty regular and day-to-day for me, so that's really why I forget to share that information or even document it here.
So for that reason, I've come up with a solution - a Q+A!

For starters: no question is a stupid question.... Honestly. I want to be transparent and even asking a simple question such as inquiring about my marital status or "if I have kids" is good enough for me lol some people may not know, ya know....
I'll answer (mostly) anything and I'm really an open book (hence having a blog in the first place) so I'm excited to see what others may want to know about me (or my life).

So, if you want to have a question featured on here, then there's a few ways to do it...
You can:

A: Leave a comment down below (it can be anonymous)
B: Send me an email at hello@taylorpilk.com
C: Use the 'Contact Me' form
at the bottom right, on the HOME page (it can be anonymous too!)
D:  Instagram DM @taylorpilk
E: Snapchat @taylorpilk

Ekkkk - sorta nervous, sorta excited.. So ask me those questions, y'all!

Easy like Sunday morning....

1.
2.
3.

I've truly been blessed by the kind and thoughtful words of others. Other times, not so much. The quote, "You can be the ripest, juiciest peach in the world and there's still going to be somebody that hates peaches." Will apply at some point in everyones life. It has mine. I believe I found the key to that phrase though: If you're doing what you love, it won't even matter anyway.
No matter if you're doing what you love or you're with the person you love, if you truly have a passion for it/them, any negative words will leave you as quickly as they arrived.
That really took me a long time to figure out because when I first started blogging, I figured that everybody would have the same fire that I had for the content that I shared... Not always.

So what makes this whole thing worth it? Pretty simple: I absolutely love sharing my life, my home, tips, pictures, etc. because that's who I am. A wife, a mom, a daughter, a sister, an aunt, a granddaughter, a friend and even stranger (to some), whose main goals are support and motivate others.
I think that that may be lost in in some of the readers eyes sometimes. Maybe because the pictures are pretty, my daughter isn't being messy or crying, my husband is still smiling even while taking his millionth blog pic with me. But aren't there always two sides? My daughter is two. She's not a unicorn (even though she'd like to be)... She cries, has bad days, colors on my freshly painted walls, spills food and takes a nap without even thinking twice about the mess she made in our living room just 10 minutes before. I also have a husband that owns his own business and works his butt off 24 hours, 7 days a week. Oh and to top it off, I have two dinosaurs for dogs. A German Shepherd and a Golden Retriever. We splurged on hardwood floors in hopes of keeping the dog hair down but in reality, I get to sweep our entire downstairs daily. But remember the peaches reference? See why all the bad is actually outweighed by good is because I have a daughter that we love more than all the seashells. She's smart.. sometimes too smart for her own good. She's ambitious and independent... All of the qualities that we prayed she would take from us. I also have a husband that's dedicated to our family, would do anything for us and loves us more than the world. And you can't forget our two dogs - The loyalty that they have for me, Devon and Penelope is seriously remarkable.
Those things are what matter most in my life. Everything else falls after that. Trust me.

"..Hate cannot drive out hate. Only love can do that."

Choose to love. Choose to be loved. And always love in return.

Happy Sunday, y'all

VIDEO! WHAT'S IN MY BAG: Gym Bag Edition

So, I'm jumping out on this limb here with a new branch on my blog: YouTube videos - EEEEK! I've been contemplating this for a while and my life motto is to never be sitting on your porch swing at 80 years old, wishing you would have done something in life; SO HERE I AM! This is my first video and while I do have an amazing camera that Devon bought me, this opportunity was too good to pass up (and I couldn't sleep as per usual) so I took the chance and filmed this on my MacBook, IN MY KITCHEN. It's super unprofessional but that's how I'm rollin and it's easier than pictures and words and you'll get the point.... I'll try harder on my next one  - maybe ;) But for now, here y'all go! WHAT'S IN MY BAG: Gym Bag Edition! XO

thanks for watching :))

Christmas Vacation | Sanibel Island

If you follow me on basically any social network, you would be well-aware that we just took our annual family vacay and this year we traveled to Sanibel Island, right near the Gulf and it is definitely the cutest place I have ever seen!! Here are a few pictures of our trip from - I shared a lot on my personal Facebook Page and Instagram but I had so many that I wanted to post but most of them were landscape photos and I didn't want to overload pics on everyone so I've waited to share them on my blog, I hope y'all enjoy! And if you ever get a chance to go to Sanibel, some of our fav spots were: George and Wendy's & Taquita's for the chicken tacos - AMAZING,  Zebra Frozen Yogurt to get the frozen hot chocolate!!, Pinnochios for the seriously amazing ice cream and Over Easy for the BEST pancakes and breakfast! If you're in need of a good coffee-fix, make sure you get a coffee from The Sanibel Bean and try their the White Mocha latte - SO GOOD!  Also make sure you go shelling on the beach and to rent bikes to be able to ride along the bike paths to explore the island :) Really thankful that sunny Florida was so good to us ;)

Tis' the season for RED LIPS!

It's amazing how a good red lip can be the easiest accessory for any event or holiday party and I currently can't get over how gorgeous [MAC All Fired Up] is. It's the perfect matte lip that can EASILY be applied as a bold color or a sheer color for the perfect daytime look!
(Of course it'll depend on how you apply it - swipe for bold, dab for light ;))
It didn't make my lips dry in the slightest and it was still moisturizing after I had worn it for awhile - SO GOOD! I totally get that not everyone wants to pay $16 for a lipstick they might wear a handful of times so I hunted down a drugstore brand and a mid-price range brand so everyone can experience this look this upcoming holiday season!
Here are the two lipsticks that I'd suggest if you're wanting to try this color out:

|NYX's|
In [Bloody Mary] $6
Which can probably be found in any store that sells NYX,
the link I'm giving you is to ULTA

&

|SEPHORA BRAND|
In [Valentine] $13
I actually have this one and didn't even realize they were the same color until I was wanting to wear a red lip and started comparing the two and that's when realized they were identical, lol

& of course here's the link again for the actual
lipstick that I'm wearing in the pic above:

DISNEY | 2014 xo

| the h a p p i e s t place on earth |

I've FINALLY got around to making a collage of our Disney trip and posting my favorite memories from it! Going in October is such a good month for Florida because it's not scorching hot and it's not super cold so it ended up being the perfect time to go with a 7 month old - and at this age, YES, babies can enjoy a handful of rides too ;) The Little Mermaid being my personal favorite from the trip, along with Haunted Mansion and Pirates of the Caribbean... We definitely rode those the most - seriously, so. much. fun. And thanks to P for making it perfectly acceptable for us to be kids again - no questions asked. HA
And here's a fun little tip if you're planning on going to Disney: If you go, go in October during their 'Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween' because there's literally HALF of the people there for that as there are during the day, during normal park hours, which basically meant NO WAIT TIME for any ride we wanted to ride - jackpot! The event is after 6 or 7PM and you have to buy separate tickets but I personally feel it's better to go for that than to go during the day, when the lines are twice as long and it's twice as hot. We literally went right up the the front for any ride we wanted to - it was a rarity for Disney, that's for sure but definitely made the experience sooo much more fun!
Last thing, if you're a foodie like me, GO TRY BJ's Restaurant and Brewhouse in downtown Orlando and get the Pizookie!!!!! Literally best. thing. EVER. It's a giant cookie, topped with ice cream (pic below) and I'm seriously planning a trip around going there again because they're THAT delicious! Devon has been talking about them for FOREVER - ever since he went to Huntington Beach like 6 years ago so when we saw this on our way back, I knew we had to go there for dinner that night and being true to my character, it was seriously that important LOL
Their food is delicious as well so it's an all-around good eating experience - and if you're into trying new beer/wine, then this place is perfect for you too because they have so many crazy things to choose from - you're bound to find something ya love!

• Life Essentials: Laundry Detergent •

This obviously isn't a conversation starter and no one really thinks to inquire about what brand of detergent you recently picked up from Target over the weekend as it's one of the last things you'd think about switching but you probably should. Especially if you have little ones!
I had been using (and still do at times) The Honest Brand for all of our laundry... Way before I was even pregnant with Penelope so I had my fair share of testing before spit-up happened in my life. And for our daily clothing wear, it worked perfectly. It had all of the things I was looking for as far as laundry was concerned: No fragrance, meant for a high-efficiency washer, and of course, cleaning power. But after P came along, and for nearly 6 months of her life, she had horrible acid-reflux, The Honest Brand wasn't working to get out the stains. I always tried my best not to use Clorox or OxiClean but sometimes there was nothing else I could use in order to save her Aden + Anais blankets or cute white onesies that she got to rock for a minute before they became stained... Sigh. UNTIL I began searching for a good brand that was a brightener, spot-treater and detergent all in one AND of course to my green-fashion, it had to be hypoallergenic and safe for newborns and I finaaaally found it: [Molly's Suds].
I have been happily doing laundry for the last 2 months with this stuff - something you definitely don't think of saying about doing all things such as laundry!
I first purchased the [ Molly's Suds Starter Package ] to test everything out and see if it was something that would work so I definitely suggest this package first.. Even the wool dryer balls are a really cool thing for us because it's become the norm to wash a few things at a time rather than waiting to wash when you have a big load so when I go to dry the clothes, the balls help everything dry evenly so they don't get stuck on one side and go an entire dry-cycle, still wet at the end. They are also amazing for big loads, like washing sheets and towels - always mixing everything up so they are sure to get dry, even with a slammed-full dryer!

We also use the dog shampoo for our dogs and it works really well for them. We have a German Shepherd and Golden Retriever and both of them have crazy sensitive skin... So much so, that they're on special food that we have to order from Texas - Crazy, right!? so when they need a bath, we were always prepared for them to be itching like crazzzzzzy afterwards but since we started using this, we haven't noticed any irritation on them at all. Even though it works like a charm, I wouldn't be being honest if I didn't mention that it doesn't really suds up the way a normal soap would and that takes some time getting used to but it cleans them effectively nonetheless and leaves them smelling just like the product in the bottle and they NEVER itch afterwards which is a HUGE deal for our little guys.

Don't forget to use code DISCOVER for 20% through today on your entire order!!
This is a really good deal and you won't be disappointed xo

This works sooo well with Devon's hunting clothes and my workout gear
For our everyday wash and spot-cleaner
For our pups
This goes above and beyond when cleaning whites that spit-up has messed up

A Small Peek at Our Beach Pictures!

A little impromptu photo sesh at the beach with my fambam. Love these two to pieeeeeces! Also, soooo many people have asked for the deets on P's bow and it's from Ruby Blue inc on Etsy! These bows are amazing quality and perfect for any outfit so obviously we love em'!

I adore seeing Penelope and Devon together. Overhearing him say "I love you" to her makes my heart turn to absolute mush. The bond between these two is seriously unlike anything I have ever seen in. my. life. I'm so thankful that I get to see the daddy's girl come out in her personality, even before she can speak. The way her eyes light up when she hears his voice when he gets home from work is something out of a fairytale. They are seriously each others WORLD. If I'm blessed with more little babes and we end up with a house full of little girls, just to see this bond my life would be complete. So thankful for these babes... They are the reason behind my heartbeat. x

b&w pics are forever my fav.
P's face is PRICELESS.
Showing P the kites

Ps. I CANNOT believe our little babe will be 6 MONTHS OLD next week!!!! Where does time go!? Really, Y'all.... how adorable would she be with a little brother or sister!? It would seriously be ADORABLE.

| Classic Perfume Favorites |

I love. love. love. perfume. I absolutely adore anything that's considered an accessory and perfume is definitely one of my faves! I really love strong scents and scents that will last throughout the day and don't wear off and so that's why these 2 have been my go-to perfume picks as of late!

A light, floral scent that smells sooo clean and fresh! I wear this all year long but I would say that it's probably more of a "spring time" perfume because it is lighter than most that I love. Definitely worth the buy - you can get this at ULTA!

ALL credit goes to Britney Chisholm for my discovery of this amazing perfume!!! This is exactlyyyyy my kind of fragrance! I absolutely love versatile scents that go well in either winter or summer and this one fits perfectly! It's floral, clean, delicate and bold all at the same time. I find that the small spray bottle works perfectly for travel and every day toting around because it fits so easily in your purse (or diaper bag!) and it would take up next to no space when we fly which is a huge plus because I haaate carrying a heavy perfume with me in my purse all day long - especially through the airport! You can find this at Sephora as well and don't forget to watch Britney's YouTube vlog here where she gives you her take on this perfume and other amazing things in her July Favorites - and don't forget to subscribe. subscribe.
